Senior Software Engineer – Intro to CourseStorm

As a Senior Software Engineer who may be browsing job postings, you undoubtedly know exactly what a software engineering position entails.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk about who we are, how we work, and what makes us different.

At CourseStorm, we operate at the confluence of our three Core Values: Simplicity, Helpfulness, and Growth. We call ourselves “a startup without the startup” because balance is important to us. We don’t do 60-hour work weeks, but we also don’t have 4-day work weeks. We don’t want salary to be the only reason someone works at CourseStorm, but we also don’t want it to be the reason that they can’t. We have investors but have ensured that they are aligned with our values and our expectations.

Our mission is to streamline access to education. What does that mean to us? This means eliminating the inessential — we identify barriers between educational programs and their learners, and we build solutions to remove them, increasing access to education for hundreds of thousands of students across personal and professional growth classes. We champion alternative routes to education – noncredit programs, technical certifications, personal enrichment, lifelong learning, and arts and theater education, just to name a few.

In short, we are a team of real humans building software that meets an urgent need in education and we bring our whole person to this important work. We respect each other, we laugh and cry together, we give every challenge our very best, and we recover together. We think deeply, argue productively, and believe that each person’s involvement is needed to move us forward.

This year we’re projected to make 1 million connections to education since our founding. That’s 1 million opportunities for students across the country to improve and enrich their lives. In the next two years, we plan to triple that number. And to do that, we need your help.

If you’re a software engineer who enjoys the balance of intense focus, detailed thinking, and iterative problem solving, and who has an innate need to work with a team of equally focused, hard-working, and empathic people, get in touch with us. We’d love to hear from you!
